SL vs AUS 2nd Test Highlights: Australia’s defeat against Sri Lanka, New Jayasuriya makes history in Test debut

Throat: Sri Lanka defeated Australia (SL vs AUS) by an innings and 39 runs in the second match of the Test series. The hosts have won by an innings for the first time against Australia. With the victory in the Galle Test, Sri Lanka also held the two-match series to a 1-1 draw. Australia won the first match by 10 wickets. On the fourth day of the match, Sri Lanka’s first innings was reduced to 554 runs. Australia scored 354 in their first innings with the help of hundreds from Steve Smith and Marnus Labushan. The Sri Lankan bowlers bowled out Australia for just 151 in the second innings.

Prabhat Jayasuriya took 12 wickets
Sri Lanka has got a new Jayasuriya. In his first Test, left-arm spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya took 12 wickets. After taking 6 wickets in the first innings, he also took 6 wickets in the second innings. This is the best performance of any Sri Lankan bowler in his Test debut. This is the fourth best performance of the entire debut test. India’s Narendra Hirwani took 16 wickets for 136 runs in his first Test against the West Indies in 1988. This is still the best bowling performance of his debut.

David Warner and Usman Khawaja gave Australia a good start in the second innings. The two shared a 49-run stand. After this the team kept losing wickets. Steve Smith, who scored a century in the first innings, could not even open an account in the second innings. He was promoted to LBW by Jayasuriya. Marnus Labushgan top-scored with 32 runs. Apart from Prabhat Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis and Mahesh Thekshana took 2-2 wickets. Sri Lanka have won just five of their 33 Tests against Australia. Australia have won 20 matches and drawn eight.

Dinesh Chandimal scored a double hundred
Dinesh Chandimal scored a double hundred for Sri Lanka in the first innings. He is the first Sri Lankan batsman to score a double hundred in a Test against Australia. In his 326-ball innings, he hit 16 fours and five sixes. Apart from him, skipper Dimuth Karunaratne (86), Kusal Mendis (85), Angelo Mathews (52) and Kamindu Mendis (61) scored half-centuries. For Sri Lanka, Mitchell Starc took 4 wickets. Prabhat Jayasuriya was named Man of the Match and Dinesh Chandimal was named Man of the Series.
