Shinde govt’s ‘Supreme’ exam today, hearing on suspension of 16 MLAs, challenges Governor’s decision

Maharashtra Latest News: The Supreme Court has decided to hear the petition filed by Shiv Sena chief whip Sunil Prabhu on July 11, in which Prabhu filed an application saying that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and 15 rebel MLAs should be released by then. He was suspended from the Vidhan Sabha. Disqualification proceedings are pending against him.

Mumbai: Today is the ‘supreme’ test of Maharashtra’s new Shinde government. On Monday, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Shiv Sena’s petition seeking suspension of 16 rebel MLAs. Besides, a petition filed by Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai challenging the governor’s decision to invite Eknath Shinde to form the government is also to be heard. The process of electing the Speaker and the vote of confidence has also been misrepresented. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said that the eyes of the entire country were fixed on this important decision of the Supreme Court.

Notice to 53 Shiv Sena MLAs

On the other hand, the Maharashtra Assembly Secretariat has issued show cause notices to 53 out of the total 55 Shiv Sena MLAs in the state. Of these, 39 MLAs belong to the Eknath Shinde faction and 14 belong to the Uddhav Thackeray faction. Santosh Bangar, one of the 14 MLAs in the Thackeray camp, joined the Shinde camp on July 4, the day of the government’s floor test. MLAs from both the parties confirmed receiving the show cause notice.

Demand for disqualification of MLAs

Both the parties have demanded disqualification of MLAs from both the parties, accusing each other of opposing the opposition during the election of the Speaker and voting on the no-confidence motion on July 3 and 4, respectively. The Shinde camp has not included the name of Aditya Thackeray, son of former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, in the list of MLAs whom it has sought to disqualify. These notices have been issued under the Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha Members (Disqualification on the basis of defection) rules. The MLAs have been asked to state their case within seven days.

Possibility of split in MPs

It is learned that 14 out of 18 Shiv Sena MPs may also quit Uddhav. According to reports, a meeting of MPs has been held in Delhi recently in which MPs along with Uddhav Thackeray have called for an alliance with the BJP. Shiv Sena MP Sadashiv Lokhande said, “We have expressed our desire to Uddhav Thackeray.” A meeting will be held soon, after which the MPs will decide their role. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Mandlik said the news of a rift between the MPs was a rumor. With the exception of Eknath Shinde’s MP son and one or two other MPs, all MPs are united with the party.

Aditya embarked on a journey of loyalty

After the mutiny in Shiv Sena, Aditya Thackeray has started his loyalty journey. Under this, he is organizing loyal Shiv Sainiks by visiting all the 236 branches in Mumbai. During his ‘Nistha Yatra’ in Dahisar and then in Kandivali, Aditya Thackeray said that those who wanted to leave Shiv Sena were gone, but the support of Shiv Sainiks at the grassroots level was with Uddhav Thackeray. “In each constituency, we have two to three Shiv Sainik men and women who are ready to face political opponents in the elections,” Aditya said. However, Aditya also said that the doors of ‘Matoshri’ are still open for those who have left.
