RSS tool, not correct… In Kerala, the uproar after the resignation of the governor from the position of vice chancellor, the matter reached the high court.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan has demanded the resignation of the vice chancellors of nine universities in the state. On behalf of the Raj Bhavan, a tweet said that upholding the Supreme Court’s verdict, the Governor has directed the resignation of the vice-chancellors of 9 universities. He asked to submit the resignation by 11:30 on Monday. After the governor’s order, politics has intensified in Kerala. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the BJP wants to destroy the universities of the state. He even said that as the Chancellor, the Governor has no right to ask for the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor. Also, none of the VCs sent their resignations to the Governor for disobeying the orders. The VC of Kannur University said that he will not resign. The matter has now reached the Kerala High Court and politics has intensified.

Governor Arif Muhammad Khan said that the Supreme Court recently ordered cancellation of the appointment of Vice-Chancellor (VC) of APJ Abdul Kalam University of Technology in violation of UGC norms. After this order, the governor swung into action and demanded the resignation of the controversial vice chancellor.

High Court hearing in the evening
Challenging the Governor’s orders, the Vice Chancellors have filed a petition in the Kerala High Court. The High Court has fixed 4 pm for the hearing of this petition. Among the vice-chancellors who have petitioned the High Court are Kerala University, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Sri Shankaracharya University, Sanskrit including the Vice Chancellor. Vice Chancellor of Calicut University and Thunachath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.

‘Will not resign’
Kannur University Vice Chancellor Gopinath Ravindran said that he will not resign. He said, ‘I have received the decision of Kerala Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, but I will not resign. The resignation of the VC is either based on financial irregularities or misbehavior and neither of these has happened here. This is a false allegation. Ravindran said that the matter related to his appointment as VC of Kannur is pending in the Supreme Court. The Kannur VC asked, ‘How can the Chancellor dismiss the VC when the matter is in court?

‘Governor wants to destroy universities’
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan targeted Governor Arif Mohammad Khan over the issue. He said that the Governor is waging a war with the intention of destroying the universities of Kerala. Pinarayi Vijayan said, “As the chancellor of the universities, the governor has no right to accept the resignation of the vice-chancellor.”

‘Working like an RSS tool’
“The governor is misusing the position of chancellor to exercise more powers than he has,” alleged Vijayan. It is undemocratic and encroachment on the powers of VCs. The post of the Governor is not against the government, but to uphold the dignity of the Constitution. He is working as a tool of RSS.
