Michael Bracewell: 20 runs needed in the last over, Michael Bracewell made history for New Zealand

New Delhi: Michael Bracewell’s unbeaten century helped New Zealand to a thrilling one-wicket win over Ireland. In the match played on Sunday night, according to Indian time, the Kiwis had a target of 301 runs and their five wickets fell to just 120 runs. The threat of defeat was looming, but Bracewell destroyed the ODI record book.

New Zealand, the world number one ODI team, needed 20 runs in the last over to win with just one wicket left. Ireland, who showed great play throughout the match, hoped that the match would turn out for them in the end but Bracewell gave up 24 runs off the first five balls of bowler Craig Young. It also set a world record, having previously won the match by 18 runs in the last over against England in 1987.

Bracewell, a 31-year-old left-arm batsman, was playing only his fourth match. He hit 10 fours and seven sixes in his 127-run innings off 82 balls.
