Mark Boucher: Mumbai Indians got a new coach, will the team be able to become IPL champions again due to laziness?
New Delhi: Mumbai Indians, the most successful team of IPL, has got a new coach. The 5-time champion team has handed over the responsibility to Mark Boucher. Boucher, South Africa’s best wicket-keeper batsman, will prepare the team for 2023. He is currently the head coach of the South Africa men’s cricket team, but will step down after the World T20 starting next month. Mumbai Indians have appointed Mahela Jayawardene as their global performance head, due to which the team was now looking for a new coach.
No T20 coaching experience
By the way, Mark Boucher does not have much coaching experience in the T20 franchise circuit. Boucher got the role of wicketkeeping coach at Kolkata Knight Riders in 2016 IPL. He has also played as a player with Knight Riders. However, he started his IPL career with Royal Challengers Bangalore. After playing in the tournament from 2008 to 2011, he took over as the head coach of the Titans on the domestic circuit in South Africa. He later started coaching the South African men’s team.
Commenting on his new role, Mark Boucher said, “It is an honor and privilege to be the head coach of Mumbai Indians. The history and achievements of Mumbai Indians have made it the most successful franchise in sports history. I look forward to a challenge and respect the need for results. It is a strong unit with great leadership and players. I look forward to adding value to this dynamic entity.’
