Please check Hallmark
The first thing you should look for when buying gold is its hallmark. Hallmark certification means that the gold is genuine. This certification is given by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Nitric acid test
Nitric acid has no effect on real gold. To test, scratch the jewelry slightly and add nitric acid to it. If it is gold then it will not be affected.
The vinegar test
Vinegar is readily available in almost every kitchen. If you put a few drops of vinegar on your gold jewelry, it will not affect your jewelry, provided it is real gold. If it turns out to be fake gold, then wherever the vinegar drops fall, the color of the jewelry will change.
A special feature of gold is that it is a hard metal, so it can be tested to float. If your jewelry is submerged in water, it is considered to have passed the floating test as well. If they start swimming, then understand that the gold is fake.
Gold does not have magnetic properties
Keep in mind that gold does not have magnetic properties or is not attracted to a magnet. If your jewelry is attracted to a magnet, it is fake, otherwise it is real.
