Gehlot’s statement on NCRB statistics of 17 rapes daily, said- Attempt to defame Rajasthan by wrong analysis

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday said that there is an attempt to “defame” Rajasthan after the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2021 report. The Chief Minister said that it would be appropriate to compare the figures of 2019 and 2021 as there was a lockdown in 2020. Gehlot said in a statement that it is necessary to register an FIR in every case in Rajasthan and despite this, about five percent fewer crimes have been registered in 2021 than in 2019, while in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, In 17 states and union territories including Gujarat. And crimes have been registered in Uttarakhand. “Gujarat has recorded an increase in crime by around 69 per cent, Haryana by 24 per cent and Madhya Pradesh by around 20 per cent,” he claimed.

The Chief Minister said, “Uttar Pradesh leads the country in terms of murder, crime against women and kidnapping. The number of custodial deaths is highest in Gujarat. In the case of rape of minors, Madhya Pradesh ranks first in the country while Rajasthan ranks 12th. Gehlot said, “It is the result of the steps taken by our government that where the investigation time in rape cases was 274 days in 2017-18, it has now reduced to just 68 days. The average time taken for investigation of POCSO cases in 2018 was 232 days which has come down to 66 days.

He said that effective action is being taken by the police against every crime in Rajasthan and the government is fully standing with the victim. The Chief Minister said that the number of FIRs registered on the orders of the court has reduced significantly. “It is a matter of concern that some people have misused our government’s policy of mandatory lodging of FIRs and lodged false FIRs,” he said.

Gehlot said that strict action is being taken against those filing false FIRs and will continue. The Chief Minister said that the conviction rate in rape cases in Rajasthan is around 48 per cent, while at the national level it is only 28.6 per cent. He said that it is even more worrying that in almost 90 per cent of cases of sexual crimes, both the accused and the victim already know each other.
