Cyclone Sitrang: Cyclone Sitrang reached Assam on high alert passing through West Bengal, Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura.

Guwahati: After wreaking havoc in Bangladesh, Cyclone Sitarang has reached Assam via West Bengal. The storm has caused a lot of damage in Assam. In its statement, the Meteorological Department said that during the next 6 hours, strong winds with a speed of 25-35 km per hour are likely to prevail over South Assam and adjoining Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura and will decrease thereafter. Light to moderate rain is expected at most places with isolated heavy rain over Arunachal Pradesh, North-East Assam and rest of Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, the Meteorological Department said. The weather is likely to remain dry over most parts of northwest and central India.

The regional meteorological center in Kolkata said that between 9.30 pm and 11.30 pm on Monday, Cyclone Sitrang made landfall between Tinakona Island and Sandwich near Barisal, Bangladesh, with a speed of 80 to 90 kmph and a speed of 100 kmph but made landfall. .

Bangladeshi media reported that due to the cyclone, there has been heavy rain in the south-eastern parts. The IMD said it is likely to weaken into a low pressure area by Tuesday evening.

The Meteorological Department has warned of winds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph on the coast of West Bengal on Tuesday morning. However, later it will gradually reduce to a speed of 30 to 40 kmph and then can reach a maximum speed of 50 kmph.
