Team India head coach Rahul Dravid is not worried about the form of his star batsman Virat Kohli, he believes that how much impact Kohli’s contribution will have in the team’s interest. Kohli’s poor rhythm and low strike rate while batting at number three have been questioned several times. However, like many times, this time too, Dravid defended the former Indian captain. Before the match against Pakistan, Dravid said, ‘Kohli is also coming back after the break, it is good to see that he is playing with a fresh mind. He is looking forward to playing all these matches. He got a chance to spend time on the field and hopefully he will do better going forward.
Dravid once again tried to convey that Kohli’s pace is not a cause for concern for him. He appealed to people not to pay too much attention to the statistics of any one player.
Dravid said, ‘It doesn’t matter to us how many runs he scores. Especially with Virat, people are a little bit over his stats. For us, it’s not really about him. It is about his contribution at different stages of the game. Even a short innings can make a big difference in T20.
About Rishabh Pant, who was ruled out of the last match against Pakistan, he said that he is not the first choice for the wicketkeeper. Referring to the T20 World Cup, he said, ‘There is no first-choice wicketkeeper in the team. We play according to the conditions, the field conditions and the opposition team and select the best XI accordingly.
“The first choice for every situation cannot be the playing eleven,” said Dravid. It will be different. That day against Pakistan we felt that Dinesh (Karthik) was the right choice for us.
