Has captained Himachal in Ranji
Apart from being a politician, Anurag Thakur has also been a cricketer. He has also appeared in first-class matches for Himachal Pradesh. In the year 2000–01, he played his only first-class match against Jammu and Kashmir. Along with this, he was also the captain of the team in this match.
The surprise came when Anurag came to the field to play his first first-class match for Himachal. During that time he was also the president of Himachal Cricket. He has been the only player to do so, who has also played a match for his team while being the Chairman of the State Cricket Board.
He has played an important role in BCCI
Apart from the post of President in Himachal Cricket, he has also held the post of Chief of Indian Cricket Board. Anurag Thakur became the BCCI president in 2015 and stepped down in 2017 after the Lodha Committee report. However, since then his role in Himachal Pradesh cricket has remained active and he is constantly working to promote the sport in the state.
