An ISRO official says India will increase its self-reliance in the protection of space assets

Bangalore: Indian Space Research Organization A senior ISRO official has said that the ISRO System for Safe and Sustainable Space Operations and Management (IS4OM) will enhance the country’s self-reliance in protecting space assets.

Union Minister of State for Space Jatinder Singh will inaugurate IS4OM here on Monday in the presence of Secretary, Space Department and ISRO Chairman S Somnath. According to ISRO, IS4OM is a system that takes a holistic approach to ensuring a safe environment in space and, at the same time, provides the benefits of sustainable use of outer space.

“This is part of the Space Environmental Awareness Program to detect and monitor space debris,” an ISRO official said. “IS4OM will enhance our self-reliance in the protection of our space assets and is in line with UN guidelines on wreck management,” the official said.
