(Victor Excelson). The 20-year-old defeated defending champion Li Jia of Malaysia in the semi-finals in three games. Lakshya won the match 21-13, 12-21, 21-19. At the same time, 28-year-old Axelson of Denmark defeated Chou Tien Chen. 2020 champion Axelson is in the final for the fourth time in a row. They have lost twice in the final.
Lakshya is the fourth Indian to reach the final and the fifth overall. So far only two Indians, Prakash Padukone and Pullela Gopichand, have won the tournament. In 2015, Saina Nehwal lost in the final. Lakshya Sen had won a bronze medal in the World Championships last year. He lost to India’s Kidambi Srikkanth in the semifinals.
World No. 10 Lakshya Sen has won just one of his five matches against Excelsior. She won the German Open this month. In the semi-finals of the tournament, Lakshya defeated Victor Excelson 21-13, 12-21, 22-20. Axelson had won all four of its previous matches unilaterally. Lakshya could not win a single match in these four matches. Axelson won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. She defeated two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan in the bronze medal match at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
